ASTI has design and fabricated a unitized prototype system to provide breathable atmospheres in confined volumes. The system monitors the condition of the air within the enclosure and takes appropriate action to maintain a necessary level of oxygen while removing exhaled carbon dioxide and other gases from the atmosphere.

The system may be powered by an external power supply or by a separate, skidded power supply unit. A manual generator is included to lengthen the operating time of the unit when external power is not available.

A programmable logic controller oversees the entire atmosphere maintenance process. A menu-driven touch screen operator interface allows the process to be initiated and monitored. Once placed into operation, the unit is entirely automatic, and records system data history for the entire projected operational life of the unit. An authorized operator may override operational protocols using the HMI. The system features a one-button “self-test” procedure which tests system components and records the results in a downloadable, date-time stamped screen snapshot.

The prototype unit contains sufficient resources to sustain 16 occupants of a confined volume for a period of 100 hours.
